Door Creek Church - Children's Ministry Area Song Bird Room
The SENA Board of Directors will be meeting on November 5 at 5:30pm at Door Creek Church with a developer to discuss a possible grocery store in our neighborhood. Board of Director meetings are open to anyone in the neighborhood. If this development becomes more of a reality a bigger meeting will be called for the neighborhood.
There has been significant discussion about this possible development in the discussion forum. Please review that discussion and weigh-in with your opinion. You must be logged into the site to view and post. If you are a neighbor in Door Creek, Reston Heights or the Meadowlands and haven't registered here yet, please take a moment to do so. It is the best way to stay informed with happenings in the neighborhood.
The school year is fast approaching and as we get ready to send our little ones off to Kindergarten, a small "meet & greet" play date has been arranged in hopes of making that first day of school not so scary...as they'll hopefully be able to recognize some friendly faces!!
Please bring a drink (juice boxes or jug with cups) --OR-- a small snack to share (cookies/chips/crackers etc.) Figured "pot-luck" style would be the easiest. Plates and a couple of tables to put the snacks on will be provided.
Please join City of Madison Real Estate and Fire Department staff to discuss the proposal of a far-east side Fire Station on Wednesday, April 29 at 6:30 pm at the East District Police Station Community Room, 809 S. Thompson Drive.
Several years ago, a new fire station was slated to be built in our area to preserve the fire department's benchmark of a 5-minute response time for ambulance and fire truck service. The original lot was to be part of the school site in the Door Creek neighborhood, but the school district has failed to reach agreement with the city and we have gone shopping elsewhere.
There is a lot for sale in the Metro Tech area (southeast corner of Milwaukee St. and Sprecher Rd.) between Towne Center Dr. and the interstate. It meets the response time goal, has proper access, an approved use in the neighborhood plan, a suitable price, a willing seller and buyer.

Join your neighbors at the SENA annual meeting and yearly elections at 10:00am on Saturday, March 28, at Door Creek Church. County Supervisor Nominees Nancy Mistele and Kathleen Falk will be in attendance. Each candidate will talk about their plans for Dane County and answer any questions.
Please plan to attend the Sprecher East Neighborhood Association Annual Meeting to find out about the County Executive nominees, participate in elections, learn more about your neighborhood association, and socialize with your neighbors. Rolls, juice, and coffee will be served.
Although RSVPs aren't necessary, please take a moment to RSVP online so we can make sure we have enough rolls and coffee for everyone.
Kids, bring your baskets for the annual SENA Easter Egg Hunt! This event will be held in Dominion Park on Sunday, April 5th at 11:00 am (rain, shine, or snow!).
Plastic eggs filled with candy are being provided by the association and donations of these items are not needed.
It is free for SENA members and $1.00 for each child that isn't a member. Non-member fees can be paid the day of the event. Please RSVP so the Easter Bunny knows how many eggs to hide! Hope to see you there!
Take time out of your busy schedule on Wednesday evening, March 11 to enjoy some appetizers on the Sprecher East Neighborhood Association and socialize with your neighbors at Cloud 9 Grille.
This will be a great opportunity to look forward to spring and get out and meet your neighbors. SENA board members will be on hand to answer questions about the organization and what is offered each year as far as events, newsletter and representation with the City.
Cloud 9 will also be providing a $10 gift card to each adult attending this event. The gift card is good for a future visit.
Once the holidays are over, the winter months seem to drag on and on. Here's your chance to reconnect with your neighbors, and have some family fun on a cold January evening! The Sprecher East Neighborhood Association is hosting a Movie Night at Door Creek Church. Join us in the main auditorium on Sunday, January 18th from 6:30 to 8:30 (the next day is a federal holiday, so no school) to view the movie WALL-E. We will be showing a family friendly movie, enjoying snacks, and getting a chance to catch up with our neighbors. This event is free for members, with a $1.00 charge per person for non-members.

Bluff Point Neighbors have been added to the Common Council agenda for October 7th to dispute the Parks Commission decision regarding the leg of the ski path near Bluff Point.
The focus will be examining the ski path so it doesn't damage tress as well as cost considerations. Is this portion of the path really necessary for the skiers to enjoy the rest of the ski path(s) in the park and at what cost to the City if they will have to incur additional costs to protect both the private and public trees as well as add some hedges/screening.
Join us at Door Creek Church on Saturday, October 17 for a Halloween Party for the kids! Kids should come in costume and enjoy games, crafts and snacks. This is a free event for SENA members and only $1 per child for non-members.
If you have interest in the trail, either in support or opposition, you are invited to weigh in, by appearing at the meeting on Sept. 10, 6:30 pm, at Warner Park Community Center. This issue, as some of you have observed, is like many that involve different points of view - it's complex, with no "right" or "wrong" answer. In this case, it's a bit of a science question that requires some expertise in tree health and habitat. While there may be disagreement among the experts, open and active discussion like this and at the meeting will bring resolution.
As an area park, this is park and its amenities belong to thousands of people. Please participate and share your thoughts. In the end, it makes for a better park and community.
Attached are a couple documents created by neighbors most affected by this development.
